Standard Tour (duration appr. 4hrs)

 

During this tour we visit Ferencváros the “pantry” of Budapest, where several steam mills as well as the Pig and the Cattle Slaughterhouses were working. The district also had an important role in grain, livestock and food logistics, here was operating the Wholesale Market, Public Warehouses, the Elevator Building and still in use: the Central Market Hall. Beside the food trade and food processing facilities, we will also see the Arms Factory in Ferencváros. We will also travel to Csepel Island where the famous Manfred Weiss factory (later Csepel Works) can be found. Beside the Works we will see its Workers Quarters and also the bunkers built during the WWII. We also visit the port and see the Freeport Granary and also the Kvassay lock at the North of Csepel Island.

The district also had an important role in grain, livestock and food logistics, here was operating the Wholesale Market, Public Warehouses, the Elevator Building and is still in use: the Central Market Hall. Beside the food trade and food processing facilities, we will also see the Arms Factory in Ferencváros.

We will also travel to Csepel Island where the famous Manfred Weiss factory (later Csepel Works) can be found. Beside the Works we will see its Workers Quarters and also the bunkers built during the WWII. We also visit the port and see the Freeport Granary and also the Kvassay lock at the North of Csepel Island.

We also go to the countryside and will visit Biatorbágy, where we can see the stunning Viaduct which was exploded by Szilveszter Matuska in 1931 and also a nice dry mill. From Biatorbágy we drive to Herceghalom village to see its Granary and Water Tower. Driving back to Budapest, we stop at Lakihegy Radio Tower and will see this impressive 314m tall cigar-shaped mast. In Budapest we will be walking in Wekerle quarter which is one of the nicest examples of the Garden City Movement. We finish our tour at the Central Market Hall and will also admire the Liberty Bridge.
